Toyota wins in WEC

7 JUN, 2019

For motorsport fans, Le Mans and Nürburgring need little introduction and this month, Toyota GAZOO Racing will take to these two iconic race circuits with passion, fuel and fire.

Our hybrid sports cars have blitzed the 2018-19 World Endurance Championship. We have won the manufacturers’ title, with one round to spare – the famed 24 Hours of Le Mans.

Following our win last month in the 6 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium where Sébastien Buemi, Kazuki Nakajima and Fernando Alonso drove to victory in the #8 car, we have already secured the manufacturer’s championship in the eight-round season, with Le Mans set to determine the driver’s championship title.

Buemi, Nakajima and Alonso currently top the driver’s standings with a 31-point lead going into Le Mans on June 15, ahead of teammates Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi and José María López, who all share second place.

Toyota GAZOO Racing has dominated the entire WEC Super Season with Buemi, Nakajima and Alonso winning four races and Conway, Kobayashi and López in the #7 car taking the win at Fuji in Japan and Shanghai in China.

The strength of the Toyota GAZOO Racing HYBRID sports cars has proven almost unbeatable, validating our belief that the experience we gain from motorsport, particularly in the world of endurance racing, helps us develop ever better cars.

That much can be seen in our All-New GR Supra that will take to the track in its own endurance test with a TGR entry lining up for the 24-hour race at the Nürburgring in Germany from June 20-23.

This legendary circuit, dubbed “the green hell” by former F1 champion Jackie Stewart, has long been a favoured track on which manufacturers, race teams and drivers test their limits to the max.

The all-new turbo-charged six-cylinder Supra, that has already spent plenty of development time on the famed circuit, will grid up against more 200 other racecars across multiple categories to take on the 25km racetrack.

The GR Supra and our HYBRID sportscars are just part of our motorsports program to push us and our cars to the limits and give motorsport fans across the globe plenty to celebrate.
